Minakami Area
Minakami has been one of Japans' best kept winter secrets. A hot spring resort town nestled in the Tanigawa Range in Northern Gunma, Minakami has a wide variety of outdoor adventures, numerous outdoor tour operators (in both winter and summer) and also boasts Japans' biggest outdoor hot springs.
There are 10 ski fields in the area that cater for a range of levels, from beginners and families to powder hounds and big mountain riders. The size and consistency of the snowfalls are on average equal with more well known areas of Hokkaido, and all just a 70 minute bullet train ride (Joetsu Shinkansen) from Tokyo!
Alpine Lodge has discounted lift tickets for Okutone and Houdaigi ski areas, which can save you up 1000 yen on a day pass!
